On the inaugural episode of Feminist Peace Network Radio, I had the pleasure of talking with feminist shero Robin Morgan about feminism and the role it plays in the Occupy movement and as Robin so aptly pointed out, the role Occupy should play in the feminist movement.

My great thanks to Allie McNeil of A World of Progress Radio (AWOP) for helping with the chat room and providing much needed support for my pre-first show jitters and to everyone who listened in.  For those of you who are wondering, yes there will be more shows after the first of the year, stay tuned!

I have a confession to make, embarrassing as it is.  While my intellect may have known better, there have been a few moments in my life when I wanted to be a cover girl with the perfect makeup, hair and wardrobe to die for.  Well now that fantasy has come true in the best of ways without having to bother with being airbrushed and squeezed into Barbie attire!

The Women’s Institute for Freedom of the Press (WIFP)’ newest publication, “A Women’s Media Resource” cover features beautiful drawings of Ida B. Wells, Dr. Maurine Beasley, Angela Davis, Frieda Werden, Sunita Viswanath, Gloria Steinem and Andrea Dworkin and yes, that is me in the lower right corner. No doubt about it–this is what beautiful really looks like! I am truly honored and grateful to be included in such amazing company and also for the encouragement, support and friendship of WIFP Director Dr. Martha Allen.

WIFP is an excellent resource and their work is crucial to furthering women’s voices in the media, if you aren’t familiar with their work, please take a minute to check out their website and learn more.

KPFA’s Women’s Magazine’s Kate Raphael interviewed me for today’s show regarding the HPV vaccine:

Women’s Magazine – September 26, 2011 at 1:00pm

Click to listen (or download)

Michelle Bachmann claims vaccinating girls against the HPV virus causes brain damage and encourages twelve year olds to have sex. Progressive pundits say the vaccine is safe and prevents cervical cancer.
Feminist Health writer Lucinda Marshall says the real issue is drug company influence on our public policy. In this segment we look at the aggressive marketing campaign launched by Merck Corporation for its vaccine Gardasil, and how that may have influenced the process of its becoming so prevalent.

This Sunday evening, September 18, Feminist Peace Network Director Lucinda Marshall will be interviewed on  A World Of Progress Radio  in a segment devoted to health care issues.  Marshall will talk about her experience trying to transfer an individual health insurance policy from one state to another and how the problems faced by individual policy holders with pre-existing conditions are not currently being addressed adequately by health care reform.  This issue hits women particularly hard since they are less likely to be covered by an employer’s policy.

Other guests on the show include health insurance industry whistleblower Wendell Potter, Vanessa Beck of Healthcare Now and Mad As Hell Doctors.

The show will air at 7pm EDT.  Marshall will be interviewed beginning at 7:45.

To read more about Marshall’s experiences please see the blog she has set up regarding this issue, Pre-Existing Pundit.
