Memo to Nancy Pelosi: A patriot is someone who opposes a President who proposes doing something that is morally wrong and just because Obama is a Democrat does not suddenly make the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan right. According to the San Francisco Chronicle:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the White House will try to muscle through a $106 billion war funding bill today, hoping to quell a rebellion among liberal Democrats against further support for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Democratic leaders added sweeteners to lure votes for the war bill, including $7.7 billion to prepare for flu pandemics and $1 billon for a “cash for clunkers” program to provide as much as $4,500 in rebates to consumers who trade in old cars for vehicles with higher fuel efficiency.
Sweeteners?? $7.7 billion dollars that no doubt will primarily enrich pharmaceutical companies rather than close down factory farms and an economically insane “cash for clunkers” plan, both of which are just the latest in a long string of poorly conceived federal expenditures and should soundly be defeated does not make these wars a better idea.
“We’re certainly not going to let Republicans kill Obama’s plan,” (Rep. Sam) Farr (D-CA) said, referring to expected opposition among House GOP members. “They just want to embarrass the president.”
Well yeah they do want to embarrass the Prez, but this isn’t a 3rd grade playground. The real issue is how anyone can justify continuing what are arguably two of the most failed military campaigns ever, both of which were based on the flimsiest of reasoning not to mention outright lies.
Pelosi is telling recalcitrant members “that we need to do this, this is President Obama’s plan for both Iraq and Afghanistan. He’s got a plan to end the war in Iraq,” Daly said. “He’s got a plan to refocus our efforts in Afghanistan, and we need to support the president in that, and this is the right way to go.”
No it’s not, it sounds more like what George Orwell would have written if he was doing acid.
