As we all bask in the glow of the many wonderful International Women’s Day observances throughout the world, we’ll try to post as many pictures as we can when they come in from various events. This fabulous picture from the Million Women Rise event is courtesy of Ghosts and Shadows made available via Warriorgrrl on Twitter. Check out the blog to read her full account of attending the march and to see more pics. If you have pictures of your event that you would like to share, please send them to fpn @ feministpeacenetwork.org.

Thank you Lucinda for adding Ghosts and Shadows’ video of Million Women Rise march. I was one of many women and children marching and the atmosphere was electric. Yes women stopped the traffic and yes women marched in Central London’s premier shopping centre, but did the media acknowledge this? Of course not – instead there was a deathly silence from the male-dominated and male owned media. The only news media reported was either male on male violence (wars of course), the continuing recession (which is due to deliberate male capitalist motivated mismanagement) or else trivial articles unceasingly telling women how they do not measure up compared to men.
But women’s voices will not be silenced and it was wonderful seeing so many women of differing ages, backgrounds, ethnicities and also hearing the messages of support from women not living in the UK.
