Having decided that watching Sarah Palin’s speech at the Republican National Convention is much too toxic because I know darned well that if I do, I will then be up half the night ranting raving and worst of all blogging, I thought perhaps it might be helpful to share some empowering women’s energy as an antidote to the festivities in Minneapolis.
First of all, most of you already know about the shocking arrest of Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman and other journalists covering the Republican Convention. It’s not that arrests at political conventions are unexpected, but arresting journalists who are covering the story is another thing entirely. When that happens, we might as well cancel the convention because we no longer have a democracy to lead. Free Press has posted a petition to the Mayor of Minneapolis and other officials condemning the arrests. You can sign it here.
Secondly, if you haven’t been receiving Starhawk’s updates on the action in the streets in Minneapolis, they are must reads and you can find them here.
Lastly, spiritual wise woman Carol P. Christ has a wonderful post called The Right To Protest Is As American As Apple Pie: Or Is It? that offers some good perspective for making sense out of what s going on.
So please, in the midst of all the toxic energy around us, take a moment and nurture and empower yourself! Listen to these wise women and make sure that they continue to be heard without fear of arrest!
