Website That Tracks Media Attacks On Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama Watch has put up a Media Attack page that tracks media attacks on the Presidential candidate’s wife. Truly it is sickening that there even needs to be such a site, but you might as well bookmark it now, you’re going to be referencing it a whole lot between now and November.

  1. It is ironic reporters seem to unrealistically cling to the traditional belief that a First Lady must be demur, submissive, deferential and always look adoringly at her husband. It was astounding when female reporters unfairly criticized Theresa Heinz-Kerry and now Michelle Obama for being outspoken and strong women. The racial undertones [and overtones] of attacks on Michelle add even more insult to injury. That kind of political posturing indulges fear and hatred and must be stopped.

Regardless of political affiliation, everyone has an obligation to vocally speak against every instance race and/or sexism are used against Obama.

Furthermore this is an opportunity for women to take influential leadership roles that could vastly alter (improve) public perception on a variety of women’s issues including the image of the First Lady.

  2. It makes perfect sense to me that the corporate media would promote the image of the First Lady as the “good girl,” passive, compliant, caring.

After all, television, Hollywood, and the fashion industry present women almost exclusively as sex objects, plastic-surgery-created “Barbie Dolls,” Sex-in-the-City shallow manhunters, the “bad girls.”

We’ve come a long way, Baby, but we’ve got a long way to go.

  3. In all the recent articles “comparing Michelle Obama to Cindy McCain, none of them mention the fact that Michelle Obama never broke up a marriage to date and marry her husband. Cindy McCain did. Women who have been on the receiving end of “the other woman” need to rise up and make it clear that we don’t want a homewrecker as our first lady, and we don’t want a man who breaks his vows to be our president. Why has the mainstream “liberally biased” media been so silent about this character issue?
