From Amnesty International:

Stop the Impunity and Demand Justice for Barbara Italia Mendez and the Women
of Atenco!

Dear Supporter,

Just over a month ago we told you about Barbara Italia Mendez who was one of 26 women arrested without explanation at a protest in May 2006, beaten, and raped by members of the Mexican police. May 4 will mark the two year anniversary of the incidents and no one has been brought to justice. Barbara has come to the United States for the first time to speak at Amnesty International’s Annual General Meeting in Virginia and to tell the US Congress what she lived through during those dreadful days in Mexico.

Representatives Hilda Solis of California and James McGovern of Massachusetts are encouraging their Congressional colleagues to sign on to their letter to Mexican Officials about the sexual assault of Barbara and 25 other women and urging resolution to the allegations of human rights violations.

Hundreds of Amnesty International members descended on Congress on Monday April 28, 2008 to advocate on behalf of Barbara with their Representatives.

Join Barbara and your fellow Amnesty International members in calling on Congress to help get justice for Barbara and the 25 other women by signing onto the Solis-McGovern letter to Mexican Officials.

Sincerely,
Larry Cox
Executive Director
Amnesty International USA
