“‘Thumps-up’ to individuals and organisations who have followed up on the establishment of ‘International Women’s Day’, women do deserve this special tribute, and much more too. However, this is another great concept that is without symmetrical activities and celebrations worldwide to highlight and validate sincere respect for adult females. It somehow seems like compensation for ladies who were neglected on Mother’s Dayand/or Valentine’s Day. Should that be the case, then what about men who are deserted on Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day – all year round?”
And from New Zealand:
“Blokette Kiwis have taken the “girls can do anything” mantra too far and forgotten how to be ladies.
That’s the message from the National Council for Women, which recommends a dose of finishing school for the country’s party animals.
It says they act more like men behaving badly than demure females.”"
And kudos to Fox Business for being one of the very few to consider what Phyllis Schlafly has to say worth repeating and for reprinting her diatribe dissing this very blog.
“Today, IWD serves to advance radical feminism in the form of promoting pro-abortion and pro-gay rights legislation, ratification of ERA, affirmative action for women, Title IX, government babysitting services, and government wage control, commonly camouflaged as “pay equity” or “comparable worth.” The supporting organizations are not women’s groups, but feminist groups, including Feminist Peace Network, Aurora Women’s Network, UNESCO, and the United Nations Development Fund for Women, also known as UNIFEM. Even media groups, such as CNN, the BBC, and Aljazeera TV have signed on as sponsors. Tomorrow, over 450 rallies and “events” are planned in 44 different countries across the globe.”
But even better is the first paragraph of the Fox story where we find out that IWD is also the stock symbol for IShares TR. We were wondering how an IWD story made it onto Fox Business:
“WASHINGTON, March 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ — Eagle Forum, a leading pro-family organization founded by Phyllis Schlafly, author of Feminist Fantasies, condemns the U.S. Government’s endorsement of the worldwide feminist event, International Women’s Day (IWD: 71.49, -0.55, -0.76%). According to its website, IWD is a “global day connecting all women around the world and inspiring them to achieve their full potential.” Back in 1911, the very first IWD was celebrated in order to campaign for such noble ideals as women’s right to work, to vote, and to hold public office.”
Sadly, the company does not appear to be doing well, but they have a great stock symbol!
