Earlier today a reader of this blog posted a comment regarding FPN’s coverage of the Halliburton/KBR sexual assault cases. The comment read,
” …And I would like to thank you, Lucinda Marshall, for keeping these stories alive.
By contrast, A-Huff tried to “kill” it, and Feministing just plain ignored it, month after bleeding month.
I know where I’m going to get feminist news from now on.”
Here is my reply:
I appreciate the kind words and of course we consider FPN to be a go-to site for feminist news. I was not able to find what you referred to on the Huffington Post. As for Feministing, they are one of the very best feminist blogs I know. You need to understand that not every feminist site is going to cover every issue–there are simply too many of them and only 7 days in the week. I can tell you that for every story I post here, there are usually at least 3 or 4 more that I ought to post, but I simply don’t have the time.
Rather than blame the grossly underfunded feminist blogging efforts for not covering stories, it would be good if we started asking why the mainstream press and our politicians and every person in this country, not just feminists aren’t paying attention to these stories. Follow Leonard Pitts’ example and declare yourself a feminist and start raising a ruckus instead of playing the toxic feminist blame game.
And while I’m at it, a word about our comments policy. It’s pretty simple–it should be constructive and respectful. If the words flaming, racism, misogyny, obscene or hate apply to what you write, or if it is clear that you are just trying to incite a riot, your comment will not be posted.
