If you’re like me, you are just about so numb you can’t feel your brain cells for all the idiotic political ‘debates’ where the presidential contenders have been asked, and worse yet have answered, some of this most useless uninformative and in many cases downright misleading and toxic questions ever assembled in one election year. Fortunately, Riane Eisler has come up with a list of questions that actually address the issues we need to address (novel thought, huh?). She asks:
- What do you propose to do so our nation adequately invests in our children and in the high quality human capital needed to be competitive in the new knowledge-based economy?
- Do you support policies like those in other industrialized nations that give visibility and value to caregiving, such as refundable caregiver tax credits, social security credits for child care and paid parental leave?
- The United States is one of only a handful of countries that has not ratified the women’s human rights treaty known as CEDAW and the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. Do you support U.S. ratification of these treaties, and what would you do to ensure ratification?
- What will you do to address violence against women and children nationally and internationally to help build “cultures of peace, particularly where there’s a resurgence of fundamentalist religious vigilantes?
So take that list and cut and paste it and send a note to your favorite candidate and demand that they actually address the issues that must be addressed. And while you’re at it, write the networks and demand that Eisler moderate the next debate!
