Halliburton/KBR Accused of Covering Up Gang Rape
According to ABC News, a lawsuit has been brought against Halliburton/KBR by a former employee who claims that after she reported being gang-raped at a KBR camp in Baghdad’s so-called Green Zone,
“the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she’d be out of a job.”
Jamie Leigh Jones claims that she was put under guard,
“under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she’d be out of a job.”
Jones also says that her rape kit was lost by KBR. KBR is attempting to have the case heard in arbitration (with an arbitrator chosen by the company), rather than in a U.S. courtroom.
Of note: ABC has a rather odd assortment of photos posted with the story, the first a glam headshot of the victim followed by a shot of her bedroom, complete with a row of cosmetics. Cynical me, but could they possibly be implying that she asked for it?
Jones has set up a website where she chronicles what happened to her and has also set up a foundation to help U.S. citizens who are victims of sexual harrassment and assault while working abroad for contractors or government entities.
