Website that Documents Sexual Trafficking in the Middle East Blocked by the UAE
Mideast Youth reports that their very excellent Sexual Terrorism website has been blocked in the United Arab Emirates. As they point out, it does not seem to be because of the words “sexual” or “terrorism” in the name since many other sites using those words seem to be functional.
The website provides a great deal of information about sexual trafficking in the Gulf region and while it can’t be confirmed that this is the reason the site is being blocked, the silencing of a website that documents sexual exploitation (mostly but not exclusively of women and girls) is extremely damaging because it cuts off a significant source of information about a problem that is so routinely invisibilized.
Don’t look for the U.S. government to launch a protest anytime soon, these folks are our allies and Halliburton is moving its headquarters there…
