If the mistreatment of women was actually why the U.S. goes to war instead of the misogynist excuse that it is, we would surely be nuking the crap out of Saudi Arabia by now. According to the International Herald Tribune, the 19 year old victim of a gang rape was recently sentenced to 6 months in jail and 200 lashes. Her crime? Riding in a car with men who were not her relatives.

The court more than doubled the sentence after, “her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.” The sentences for her rapists were increased from the original sentences of 10 months-5 years to 2-9 years. Her lawyer was also banned from defending her and his license confiscated.

Thank goodness these folks are our allies.

This is totally barbaric. And unimaginable in any other part of the world.
The judge who delivered this cruel sentence needs to be given the same sentence .

But i never see any feminists take a break from demonstrating against the war to demonstrate against this sort of religious barbarity in front of the Saudi embassy. Why is that?

Why is it that when something like this happens to a woman that you think it is the sole responsibility of feminists to demonstrate against it. Seems to me it that its high time men to get out there and raise a stink as well.

Tell you what… maybe if the feminists take the lead, others will follow. So, will we be seeing demonstrations from feminists anytime soon about this?

First of all, there has been a huge outcry from feminists all over the world about this, including from feminist men. So consider the lead taken. But once again, the presumption that feminists are solely responsible for leading the outcry against violence against women is deeply misogynist, so get off your whiney, lazy ass and take action,

You don’t tolerate the intolerable, whether in this country or in a different one. Shari’a is intolerable to women and has brought misery for many for centuries. And since when have feministic women ever waited for men to come on board an issue to act? What a total crock.

And your voices aren’t very loud, because we’re not seeing it much in the media. Unless it’s championing a liberal cause, that we see ad infinitum. Effectively ignoring half of the voices of your own gender.

I’m not liberal, I’m not conservative, I’m a moderate. But it seems to me that supporting a rape victim being jailed and beaten is a no-brainer. Millions of women in this potential predicament around the world and all we hear is crickets.

Yep, others need to get off of their asses, but it’s a valid question to ask EVERYONE why they’re sitting down. If your ass is in a chair, ask yourself why.

Feminists throughout the world work tirelessly every day to end violence against women. That the male-dominated media doesn’t cover it, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

If this kind of sentence was passed down in Israel, or any other “Western” country, the outcry would be overwhelming and extraordinarily public. I do find it troubling that there are not extremely loud demonstrations against Shari’a law, and it’s vicious attitudes towards women.

No there wouldn’t. misogynist hatred is perpetrated on women every day in every country with various and assorted ‘cultural’ permutations and there is no overwhelming outcry, such hatred and violence is a main pillar of patriarchy. If you want an example of the miscarriage of justice in the U.S. courts, here is one that was posted on this blog recently, U.S. Board of Immigration: FGM Not Grounds for Asylum.

I completely agree that there should be outrage against this case, but it is certainly not the only example of violence against women that should cause us to take action.

Why have we not attack that country is beyond me the fact that 18 of the 19 killers where from that country should have been a clue. In the Muslim world this shit happens daily Woman are raped and the rape is the woman’s fault.
