Ingredient in Household Cleaners Linked to Fertility Disorders
According to the San Francisco Chronicle,
“Dozens of common household cleaning products contain hidden toxic chemicals linked to fertility disorders in lab animals, according to data gathered by a women’s research group.A type of glycol ether is frequently found in popular cleaning products such as Windex Aerosol, Formula 409, Lemon Fresh Pine-Sol and Simple Green All Purpose Cleaner, says the report released today by Women’s Voices for the Earth, a Montana-based nonprofit working to eliminate or reduce toxic chemicals in the home.”
The cleaners in question contain the chemical ethylene glycol butyl ether (EGBE), an ingredient in many household cleaners although it may be hard to figure out which ones contain it since the companies that make these products aren’t required to say what they contain.
Of course the Soap and Detergent Association (who knew) claims that their products are perfectly safe. Uh huh. In the meantime, consider vinegar with a dash of soap, cleans darn near anything.
