When a Woman is Unconscious it is Called Rape, Not “Having Sex”
Memo to the media: Non-consensual sex (ie. when the woman is passed out at a party) is called rape, not “having sex”. As Jenn Pozner points out on WIMN’s Voices, this isn’t something we should have to say more than once. But the point is still apparently lost on the Lafayette, IN Journal & Courier which reported that,
“Two Lafayette men are accused of having sexual contact with a woman while she was passed out at a party in February.”
I share Jenn’s frustration that it would it would,
“be nice if newsrooms could muster up some semantic common sense, not to mention knowledge of accurate terminology for crime reporting, or even simply human decency to make such critiques unnecessary.”
