“Operation Save America is planning to swarm the New Woman, All Women Clinic in Alabama in protest from July 14-22. The clinic is the same one that Eric Rudolph bombed in 1998 - killing one man (a security guard) and forever maiming - almost killing - nurse Emily Lyons. Emily has been a very important and amazing figure to me. She was a huge supporter of the clinic I worked for, for seven years - Aradia Women’s Health Center in Seattle. Emily and our exec dir, Marcy Bloom, are good friends and Emily, even through tremendous pain and hundreds of surgeries always remained an active and generous friend to Aradia. Emily and her husband Jeff are heroes as far as I’m concerned.

Also, one of our staff women at Aradia worked at the Birmingham clinic when it was bombed and yet continued her career in abortion care despite having a co-worker killed, another one horribly injured and her place of employment bombed to smithereens. For these reasons (and many others), I want to put out a call to help this clinic. One of our staff writers, who also has a direct connection to clinic violence, wrote a long and sincere post about this today (http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2007/07/06/operation-save-america-storms-alabama-this-is-not-the-civil-rights-movement). The protest is scheduled for the anniversary of Eric Rudolph’s sentencing. I mean how much more disgusting can you get?! Operation Save America is commemorating a murderous, psychotic man in the name of what they are calling “civil rights.”
