- 9:00 am - 12 noon: Join Voices for Creative Nonviolence and CODEPINK at The Occupation Project: How to Organize Direct Action to Defund the War. Co-facilitated by Jeff Leys, Rae Abileah, and Jodie Evans.
Workshop Description:
No one likes feeling occupied. It’s time to bring the occupation to our Reps’ offices and up the ante of our peaceful resistance. Voices for Creative Nonviolence and CODEPINK are organizing the Occupation Project, a campaign of sustained nonviolent civil disobedience aimed at ending the U.S. war in and occupation of Iraq. The campaign will begin the first week of February 2007 with occupations at the offices of Representatives and Senators who refuse to pledge to vote against additional war funding In this workshop, you’ll learn how to organize this campaign in your city from start to finish - from building your team, to targeting your Congressperson, to planning an effective occupation. This will be a dynamic and interactive workshop and you’ll leave feeling inspired to commit to this action in the following month.
- 10:30-11:55: Peace is a Feminist Issue - workshop with CODEPINK and the National Organization for Women.
- At the same time there will be other organizing meetings and strategy sessions on Palestine, defunding the war, G.I. resistance, student and youth organizing, Iran and more. Full schedule here.
- 12:30 - 2:30: Legislative update, advocacy training, update on Iraq by UFPJ. More details here.
- 2:30 - 4:30: State and congressional district meetings - get together with activists (and CODEPINKers!) from across your state to plan your lobby day meetings and to lay the groundwork for working together when you get back home.

Why Come to DC on Jan 27? On Election Day the voters delivered a dramatic, unmistakable mandate for peace. Now it’s time for action. On January 27, 2007, we will converge from all around the country in Washington, D.C. to send a strong, clear message to Congress and the Bush Administration: The people of this country want the war and occupation in Iraq to end and we want the troops brought home now! |
